Mostly steel, there are a number of plastic bits, but I do not assume these would cause future problems. It's FAST- super fast. It zips thru heavy weight materials effectively. I am proud of the simple, however useful array of stitches (my different machines supply more stitches, but I infrequently use them). This machine is stable and does no lengthyer leap (I have lower back other machines that leap when used).

I think the mild can be vastly stronger -- it's way too dim. I want the LCD mild on my different machines.

All and all, I would purchase this desktop again and counsel to other crafters.

UPDATE: I have now been the use of this machine for several weeks. I'm very impressed-- the rate is fabulous-- now note, this could be too fast for folk new to sewing. Good thing Singer added a finger guard (which gets in the manner a bit, but I'm sure I would have otherwise sewn through my fingers with the aid of now).
